About the dean

Prof Francis KemausorProf Francis Kemausuor is the Dean of the Faculty. Francis is a Professor at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), with research interests in Renewable Energy, Rural Energy Systems, Energy Planning and Energy Policy. Before he was appointed Dean, he served as Vice Dean of the Faculty between November 2021 and October 2023. He has also served as Director of The Brew-Hammond Energy Centre at KNUST from August 2019 to October 2022 and as Head of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering. He has served as a Visiting Lecturer / Researcher and Adjunct Professor at several universities, including the University of Life Sciences in Norway, the Pan African University – Institute of Energy and Water Sciences (PAUWES) in Tlemcen, Algeria, the Ecole Superieure des Metiers des Energies Renouvelables in Abomi-Calavi, Benin and the Regional Maritime University in Ghana. He has also spent six months at the University of Michigan as part of the University of Michigan African Presidential Scholars (UMAPS) programme. He has undertaken numerous research and consultancy assignments in Ghana and the sub-region, commissioned by international and multilateral organizations such as the European Commission, Netherlands Development Organization, United States Agency for International Development, Danish International Development Agency, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Industrial Development Programme, ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, the Ghana Ministry of Energy and the Ghana Energy Commission. Francis holds a Ph.D. in Bioengineering, an MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development, and a BSc in Agricultural Engineering, with First Class Honours. Francis has studied at the University of Cambridge, Denmark Technical University, and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.  He has also received training in ‘biofuels and chemicals from plant resources’ at the then International Centre for Science and High Technology (ICS), a UNIDO science and technology research branch in Italy. He is a Professional Engineer and a member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering.

As Dean, he espouses a collaborative and inclusive leadership philosophy, guided by principles of transparency, integrity, and accountability. He believes in fostering a supportive and collegial environment where faculty members are empowered to thrive professionally and contribute meaningfully to the academic community. He is a champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion, striving to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where all voices are heard and valued. His vision for the faculty is rooted in a commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and student-centred learning. He seeks to cultivate a culture of intellectual curiosity and interdisciplinary collaboration, fostering a dynamic learning environment that prepares students to excel in an ever-changing world. He is dedicated to advancing research and scholarship within the faculty, providing resources and support to faculty members to pursue ground-breaking research and make meaningful contributions to their fields.
